Trenton Staffing Changes On May 13th the parties met to discuss the proposed operational changes for the Trenton P&DC. Attending for the Union were Branch President Kris Keehn and Local President John Gibson. For the employer, in attendance was Plant Manager Anthony Rozier, New Jersey Labor Relations Manager Anthony Standley as well as In Plant Support Manager Maria Calliz-Santos. Whenever such changes are proposed our very first concern is that dislocation and inconvenience to mail handlers are kept to an absolute minimum and consistent with the rules outlined in our National Agreement. As many of you know, Article 12 contains the lion’s share of language that covers bidding, job abolishment, assignments and posting criteria. To be clear there will be no excessing from the facility, in fact we expect a net growth in full-time regular mail handler positions and the posting of new duty assignments. However, there will be disruption as the employer abolishes some duty assignments and creates other jobs. You should know all re-posted and newly created duty assignments shall be available for all full-time regular mail handlers to bid on. In the Sections as defined in the facility’s Local Memorandum of Understanding where jobs are abolished, an expedited selection process, or “bump down” will take place. This process is detailed on page 176 of your National Agreement. The parties intend to meet again on May 21st and as soon as additional details are made available, we will report them to you.
