Save the Wilkes-Barre Post Office petition You can also sign our petition online CLICK HERE TO SIGN February 26, 2009 Informational Picket Informational Picket Photo Gallery On February 26, 2009 the employees of the Wilkes-Barre P&DF held an informational picket to raise public awareness of the drawbacks to doing a consolidation with Scranton. The picket was a cooperative effort between the APWU Local 175 and The Wilkes-Barre Branch of the NPMHU Local 308. The PA state AFL-CIO Community Service Director Carl Dillinger attended with the AFL-CIO bus in support of our cause. This was a great surprise and made a big impact to our picketing. We picketed from 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM and during the whole six hours all we saw was support from everyone. It was a day filled with car horns blowing, people yelling, and even police cars riding by with sirens on all in support of our Post Office. We obtained 913 new signatures on our petition during the course of the day. We can not thank the citizens of the Wyoming Valley enough for their support. I also would like to thank all the unionized workers who showed up in support of our efforts: Liuna 406, PA AFL-CIO, GWLC, USW 15253, APWU National Office, The Union News, Sheet Metal Local 44, Insulators 38, IBEW 163, SDACT & NE PA ALF, PASNAP, IUOE 367, and the GCIU 137. Without the help of the GWLC (Greater Wilkes-Barre Labor Council) and their President Sam Bianco this would not have been such a huge success. We wanted to get the publics attention and there is no doubt we acheived our goal. Finally I would like to thank our own members without you this would have never happened. However, our fight is not over in fact this is just the beginning. As you can see in the local papers the Postal Service is starting to counter some of the attacks John and I have been putting out to the public. These Consumer Affairs people the Postal Service have are much better at talking to the media and telling people what they want to hear without lying but by not stating all the facts. We need to be vigilante watching the media and making John and I aware whenever you read, hear or see any releases by the Postal Service concerning our possible consolidation. We need to counter what the Postal Service is telling the community and let the people know the whole truth not just the partial truth. Once again thank you everyone and if we stay UNITED we will beat this consolidation. Fraternally, Bill February 5, 2009 Wilkes-Barre City Council passed a resolution to oppose any consolidation efforts by the US Postal Service to consolidate Wilkes-Barre into Scranton. Attention all employees of the Wilkes-Barre P&DF, the USPS is currently conducting an AMP survey at our facility. What does this mean to you? It means you could be driving to Scranton or even further to work if the Postal Service decides to consolidate our processing operations with Scranton. APWU Local 175 and NPMHU Local 308 Wilkes-Barre Branch has decided to put all it's disagreements behind us to fight our common foe the US Postal Service. On Sunday January 25 the APWU and NPMHU will be having an informational meeting at the APWU Union Hall at 313-315 N. Washington St. Wilkes-Barre. The meeting starts at 1:00pm. If you have any concerns about what the Postal Service is doing please attend. I hope to see a great turnout, we need to join together and fight this as a group, myself or John Kishel cannot do this alone we need your help. On Monday January 26 we will be meeting with the Mayor of Wilkes-Barre the Honorable Thomas Leighton. Wilkes-Barre is currently trying to revitalize the city and moving our Post Office out of Wilkes-Barre certainly will not help, so we will be asking our Local Community Leaders for much needed support. Please feel free to contact the Postal Service and voice your concerns and have friends and family call, the more noise we make the harder we make it on the Postal Service.
