To my union brothers & sisters, Tour consolidations are taking place all over the nation as the Postal Service struggles to find ways to reduce costs in the face of the country’s severe economic recession. Local 308 is no exception. But as tour consolidations are under way, I want you to know that your union will hold Postal management to the very letter of the National Agreement. That means it will fight any reassignments made to different tours that do not adhere to Article 12.6.C4. That article outlines the process for reassigning mail handlers within an installation that are excess to the needs of a section. Aside from tour consolidations, the other news to impact our local is the election of Rob Singleton, a mail handler at the BMC, as our new Pennsylvania state representative. He replaces Ed Gallagher. In other election news, John Gibson has been reelected branch president of the BMC. A reelection was held for only those two positions, under the guidance of the Department of Labor. A member had challenged the fact that he was disqualified to run in the election that was held in February 2008. Ed Gallagher decided not to run in the reelection. At this time I want to thank Ed for his many years of service to our local. Please join me in wishing Ed well in all his future endeavors. I also would like to thank everyone who ran for office and voted in the reelection. By participating in those democratic processes they have demonstrated their commitment to ensuring that our union is of the people and for the people.
Never forget, in unity there is great strength. Fraternally, John Macey President, Local 308
